Residents & Medical Students

Residents and Medical StudentsThe Gibsons Clinic is popular for Residents and medical students at all levels of training. That popularity is partly due to the broad range of hands on experience offered by our physicians to all trainees. We also participate in offering palliative care, nursing home visits, drug addiction services and diabetic clinics to Sunshine Coast Residents. Trainees at our sites also benefit from the close liaison we have with a broad range of specialty services including general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, ophthalmology and radiology.

Year round we offer electives in Family Medicine to 2’nd, 3’rd and 4’th year students from UBC, across Canada and indeed from around the world. Our Gibsons clinic is one of the designated training sites for second year UBC Family Practice Residents both from Rural and Urban based programs and traditionally has been one of the most sought after sites.

In addition to an excellent academic experience our clinic offers a fantastic geographical location in which to recreate- sailing, mountain biking, ice hockey, golfing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing are just some of the activities available at our doorstep. And for a bit of a cosmopolitan experience, the city of Vancouver is just a forty minute ferry ride away through stunning west coast scenery.

We have been delighted over the years to have former medical students return to work with us as Residents and then later as family Physicians now involved as preceptors in our clinics. What a great testimony to a successful program.

For enquiries regarding our elective programs contact the clinic and leave a message for Dr. Paul Murphy.
