Physicians at the Gibsons Clinic

Dr. Corrie Belgraver was born in the Netherlands and raised in South Africa. She graduated in 2000 from the University of Stellenbosch Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa. After completing her residency in Potchefstroom and Worcester (SA), she has worked full time in hospitals and clinics in Kendal (UK) and Dublin (Ireland). Corrie has also worked as a ship's physician for several large cruise lines. She loves to travel and enjoys all the outdoor activities the beautiful Sunshine Coast is renowned for.

Dr. Jennifer Baxter was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences (with a focus on rural health and social justice) at the University of Western Ontario in 2008, followed by a Medical Degree from Queen's University in 2012. She moved to BC for her Family Practice Residency in Chilliwack, from which she graduated in 2014. Since that time she has worked in Bella Bella, a remote first nations community off BC's central coast, as well as in the Fraser Valley and Alberta doing primarily Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics before moving to the Sunshine Coast in the spring of 2016. She has particular interests in marginalized populations, including indigenous populations in Canada and internationally, having participated in public health and medical volunteer projects in Guatemala, the Philippines, and most recently in Peru, where she met her husband!). She and her husband are very excited to have found such a beautiful community where they can balance an active outdoor lifestyle (including running, road cycling, hiking, skiing and kayaking) with her full-service rural family practice, including work in the ER, prenatal and obstetrical care, and caring for her patients in the hospital in addition to a family practice. Dr. John Hourigan in addition to his clinic Family Practice has for a number of years been the Medical Director of the diabetes clinic at St Marys Hospital. John also has a keen interest in acupuncture. He and his wife Joan along with their three children are active members in community life on the Sunshine Coast. Dr. John Hourigan
   
Dr. Rob Lehman grew up in New Westminster, with MD degree from UBC, internship in New Zealand, Family Medicine Residency and Masters degree at UWO in London, Ontario. He has raised three children with his wife Susan while "on the coast" and continues in full time practice, also offering a marital counselling service to the community. Dr. Rob Lehman
   
Dr. Jim McFarland graduated in 1977 from McMaster University Medical School in Hamilton, Ontario.  He worked in Parry Sound, Ontario until 1992 when he moved to Gibsons.  Dr McFarland enjoys full service family medicine as well as GP-Anaesthesia, emergency work and he runs the methadone clinic at St Mary's Hospital.  He enjoys all of the outdoor activities available on the Sunshine Coast where he and his wife Cathy have raised four children. Dr. Paul Murphy graduated from the University of Liverpool Medical School, UK in 1994. He travelled and worked full time in hospital positions in Liverpool, Brisbane, Glasgow, Dublin, the Channel Islands, Perth and Canada. In 2000, he completed a Master of Science Degree in Sports Medicine at Trinity College Dublin, where he also met his wife. In 2003, he attained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. In 2008, he was conferred as a Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. Paul works as a GP with an interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, with current commitments at Gibsons Medical Clinic and at St Mary's Hospital. Paul has 2 children (one of whom is Canadian). He enjoys travel and the outdoor life that BC has to offer, including soccer, mountain biking, skiing and golf. Dr. Paul Murphy
   
Dr. Carla Paetkau was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast. She and her physician husband Jack Bryson are now raising their three children here. In addition to her Family Medicine Practice, Carla is active in competitive women's soccer and ice hockey. Dr. Carla Paetkau
   
Dr Rayna Sivakova graduated from the Medical University Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2003. She completed her Family Practice residency at UBC in 2012 and joined the Gibsons Medical Clinic soon after that. Rayna enjoys all aspects of Family Medicine but has a special interest in providing Maternity Care including deliveries. Besides medicine, Rayna enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter and living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Dr Rayna Sivakova
   
Dr. Daren Spithoff graduated from McMaster Medical School in 2007 and completed his Family Medicine and GP-Anesthesia training through the University of British Columbia in 2010. He has been with the Gibsons Medical Clinic since 2010 and practices full-service family medicine, as well as GP-Anesthesia work at St Mary's Hospital. Outside of work, he enjoys running, biking, hiking, kayaking and exploring the spectacular Sunshine Coast (and the rest of BC) with his wife and daughter. Dr. Daren Spithoff
   
Dr. Andrea Stinson grew up in North Vancouver. She did her undergraduate degree in Biology and Co-operative Science at Simon Fraser University. After completing UBC Medical School in 2000, she did her Family Practice residency in Victoria. She started her practice at the Gibsons Clinic in 2004.
