Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Walk-In Clinic?

A service provided to patients who are unable to book with their own Family Doctor. We will see patients for short appointments during the walk-in clinic on a first come first serve basis for the following: Emergencies First, then all minor complaints. Patients are advised to call 911 for any major medical emergencies such as: Chest Pains, Shortness of Breath, Possible Stroke, and Major Trauma.

Our Walk-In hours:

Gibsons Clinic        Monday – Friday         9:00am – 4:30pm*

                  Saturday         9:00am – 12:00pm

* With one doctor on in the morning and one doctor on in the afternoon.
There are other Doctors working in the clinic seeing patients with booked appointments.

Please Note: Wait times vary from about 10min – 1hr.

Which doctors are currently accepting New Patients?

For more information about finding a family physician please call the clinic to enquire if any Doctors are accepting new patients.

What is Same Day Booking and do All Doctors in the clinic use this in their practice?

No, not all physicians in the clinic use same day bookings in their practices. For those physicians who do use same day booking as part of their practice this is what it means: each day that these physicians work in the clinic, there will be some appointments that have been pre-booked for patients, and there will be some appointments that are Held Open until that morning (this means you have to phone each morning your family physician is working to book a same day booking.) You may still pre-book with your family practitioner, but it may be a 2-3 week wait.

How come I can’t just book with any Physician in the Clinic?

With the exception of the Physicians taking new patients, all other Physicians in the clinic have closed practices. Due to the high volume of patients for these physicians they only have enough appointments available to see their own patients. As a results this is why we’ve added the walk-in clinic, so that patients may see a doctor when unable to see their own physician.

What is the Policy regarding my test results? (ie. X-ray, bloodwork).

Your Physician will call you with any abnormal results, or have one of the office staff call and schedule you a follow-up appointment. If you don’t hear from your physician and would still like to know your results please call the office and schedule a follow-up appointment. For x-ray results please allow up to 10 days.

Are you open on weekends?

We provide a Saturday Clinic for our patients. The hours for this clinic are 9:00am – 12:00pm. Doors open at 8:30am and the clinic starts at 9:00am.

Please Note: We do NOT pre-book Saturday Clinics and
the Physician on call will leave early if the clinic is not completely booked.

Is there a Laboratory in your facilities?

No, the Laboratory is located in the new complex Unit 118 - 1100 Sunshine Coast Highway.

Gibsons Life Labs        (604) 886 – 8841        Monday – Friday         8:30am - 4:30pm

Can I renew my prescription over the phone?

Clinic policy is that patients need to book an appointment to renew their prescriptions. Patients can check with their Pharmacy, as some prescriptions can be renewed for a period of time through your pharmacist.

When are the Doctors next month schedules in?

Our Doctors schedules are made up only one month at a time, with the new schedule going in around the 15th of each month, provided there are no complications with their hospital commitments.

Do you support any teaching programs?

Yes, our clinic is a teaching site for the UBC Family Practice Residency program. We almost always have on site residents who are in their final year of training before becoming fully licensed family doctors. Patients who are unable to be seen by their own family doctor can choose to be seen by our Family Practice Resident.

Do you have a No Show or short cancellation policy?

Yes, we have recently implemented a no show/ short cancellation policy. If a patient does not give 24 hours notice of cancellation or no shows they MAY be charged up to $50.00 (this is left up to the Doctors discretion).
